Guildford College's Merrist Wood Campus is renowned for it's high standard of equine training and provision. This course is managed by an experienced equine tutor based at Merrist Wood.

Suitable For 
Students wishing to progress from a Level 2 qualification with a supervisory career within the equine industry.

Application followed by individual interview

Entry Requirements 
You should have completed the Equine Apprenticeship, NVQ 2 Horse Care or 4 GCSEs grades A-C, including Maths and English. You must be employed full-time in a suitable equine position.

Content / Overview 

On the Advanced Apprenticeship, you’ll take on more responsibilities. You could be working towards becoming a trek leader, riding instructor or a performance rider. The course aims to provide a high standard of yard-based training. 



Delivery Method 
'On the job' training with mentor support and assessment being carried out solely in the workplace.

Assessment 
Continuous assessment throughout the course at college and in the workplace, portfolio of evidence and exams.

Progression 
Equine Management HND at the College or more advanced posts in the equine industry.

Homework 
You may have to complete sections of your portfolio outside of College or working hours.





All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
