Suitable For The Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma is suitable for mature students who wish to follow a shorter programme of study that is directly related to employment working with animals.
Application Method Application followed by individual interview
Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs grades A*-C, including English Language and a Science subject, Level 2 BTEC Diploma/First Diploma with merit/distinction profile, or a Level 2 equivalent qualification. You will need to be comfortable working with a range of animals and will need to pass the reference and interview process.
Content / Overview Content: A shorter programme of study. Topics: Animal Health, Animal Handling and Safe Working, Animal Feeding and Animal Accommodation and Nutrition. Two option topics from the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma syllabus (see relevant course for details).
Delivery Method Elements of theory and practical based learning. Please note that the days of the week which the course will run will depend on timetables.
Assessment Projects and assignments.
Progression You can progress onto another part-time course covering the same amount of modules and then top up to the Extended Diploma in a third and final year and you could then move on to our Foundation Degrees or employment in kennels, veterinary practices, zoos or government research.
Additional Information You must wear safety footwear and a Merrist Wood sweatshirt and poloshirt.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
