Application Method Application followed by individual interview
Entry Requirements No formal requirements, but you should be working at or towards GCSE grades F-G and will need to pass the reference and interview process.
Content / Overview Practical introduction to animal care designed to enhance understanding of procedures and care of a variety of species. Topics: animals in the wild and in society; assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals; assist with feeding and watering animals; assist with maintaining the health and wellbeing of animals; assist with exercise of animals; safe and effective working practices in landbased industries; develop performance in landbased industries.
Delivery Method Through a mixture of theory and practical lessons
Assessment Practical situation assessments and portfolio, multiple choice exam.
Progression Animal Care Level 2 BTEC Diploma, other Level 1 courses or employment in the industry.
Additional Information You will need to purchase work boots and a college sweatshirt. You also need to have an up-to-date tetanus jab.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
