Why Study Here Practical work is carried out both on our extensive 280 hectare estate, with its woods, wetland features, grasslands etc, and on outside worksites, giving a wide range of realistic working situations. Our well-equipped workshops and wide range of machinery allow our skilled staff to provide the very best tuition.
Suitable For This one year, full time course is designed to provide you with an introduction to skills, knowledge and understanding required for a successful career in the countryside industry. This course is ideal for school leavers and as a follow on course from Level 1.
Application Method Application followed by individual interview
Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs with D and E grades as a minimum, preferably in English, Maths, Science and IT or equivalent and attendance at an assessment day.
Content / Overview Topics: Fencing, woodlands and hedges, Woodland skills, Machinery and tractor driving, Working in the industry, Ecology of trees, woods and forests, Countryside and conservation.
Delivery Method Through a mixture of practical and theoretical sessions.
Assessment Assignments, projects, group work, short written tests, practical tests and portfolio.
Progression Wildlife and Conservation Level 3 courses or employment at entry level within the countryside industry.
Additional Information This course is equivalent to four GCSEs at A-C grades.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
