Application Method Application followed by individual interview
Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs grades D-E or above, including English Language and a Science subject, or a level 1 qualification with merit/distinction profile. You will need to be comfortable working with a range of animals and will need to pass the reference and interview process.
Content / Overview An introduction to the practical skills and background knowledge required for a variety of careers working with animals. The course includes study of the management of a wide range of species, their handling, nutrition, breeding, health and welfare, and maintenance of housing. Modules: Work related experience in animal care, animal care industries and organisations, animal accommodation, handling and care, introduction to animal and plant biology, animal health, welfare and behaviour. Option modules (choose one option to study during the course): Animal breeds and grooming, conservation and improvement of british habitats, care of exotic animals and animal nursing. Students also have the opportunity to gain their CIEH Foundation Certificate in Health & Safety in the Workplace.

Progression Animal Management Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma, Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma or employment in the industry.

All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
