Previous Employability and Personal Development student, Reece Morden, has recently been offered a job as a Trainee Greenkeeper at Sand Martin’s Golf Club in Finchampsted, as a result of his work experience whilst at Merrist Wood College.
The College offer a series of employability programmes, from Entry Level 3 to Level 3, which are specifically designed for students who prefer practical learning and have a clear idea that employment is their aim within the near future. These programmes are unique to Merrist Wood College and combine both personal development and vocational projects to give students the best possible chance at progressing to employment or higher levels of study, having built confidence in a more supportive environment first.
Whilst studying the Entry Level 3 Diploma in Employability and Personal Development, Reece undertook work experience on the College estate and worked on maintaining the College’s sports pitches one day a week. On completion of this programme, Reece progressed on to the Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture and carried out his work experience at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Camberley. As a result of this, and through a recommendation from his boss, Reece was recently offered a job as a Trainee Greenkeeper at Sand Martin’s Golf Club in Finchampsted.
Horticulture tutor, John Cooke, said: “Reece spent one morning a week doing work experience with me on the sports pitches at the College, and his potential was apparent from the beginning. Greenkeeping is his passion and dream career, and we’re so chuffed for him.”
