The Winning Design
Floristry students from Merrist Wood College recently won a College competition organised by the Covent garden Flower market. There was tough competition with 12 other colleges competing with 32 teams.
Merrist Wood had two teams of 4 students from both full and part time floristry level 3 programmes. The winning team included 3 students from the part time course; Rebecca Stevens, Sara Purkins and Louise Eason and a full time student Helen Bourne.
The brief for the competition was to design a wall or door hanging for a trendy up market hair salon in London for a special open evening. The theme was ‘Winter Wonderland’ and each team were given £30 to purchase materials from the market traders. The competition was marked by professional judges and split into two parts, the floral design element and business / flower knowledge.
Floristry Tutor, Barbara Caldecourt said “We have had students competing in this competition in the past so we were really delighted to keep Merrist Wood’s flag flying high in the floristry world. It was a really enjoyable and informative day for all who attended”.
