Horticulture Level 2 and Level 3 DiplomaHeatherCooke

Heather Cooke

“I was working in an office job before I applied to Merrist Wood College, but I was able to successfully apply for a job at Wisley after completing my Level 2 Diploma. I have worked at Wisley for the last seven years and now manage the Members’ Seed Scheme as a Team Leader. This has been the most enjoyable job I have ever done and I absolutely loved my time studying horticulture at Merrist Wood College.”

"I wanted a career change to get out of my boring job, so I chose Merrist Wood College as it is close to home and offered the course I wanted. There are also a lot of great resources here, especially outdoors, and the tutors are lovely. They're all easy to approach and make the lessons good fun.

We get to do plenty of hands on practical work, and we are studying a wide variety of modules. I'm enjoying the Garden Design and Estate Skills modules."

"Floristry started as a hobby for me, but I soon wanted to learn more and it gave me a new direction doing something I enjoyed.

I love being at College, especially for the social aspect, but the general environment and grounds are beautiful too."

Elizabeth Hall
Masters Diploma in Professional Floristry

Elizabeth Hall

Elizabeth, from Chawleigh in Devon, graduated with a Professional Masters Diploma in Floristry and was awarded The Teleflorist Rose Bowl for achieving the highest mark on the course across the country.

“The course was hard work, probably the hardest thing I've ever done, but a real achievement. I was thrilled to get the highest mark in the country, at the age of 56 it just shows you are never too old to keep learning.”

Wildlife and Conservation Level 3 Diploma

"I started at Merrist Wood College as I wanted a career change and to work outdoors. Merrist Wood was the perfect choice because of the types of courses they offer, it's practical and it's local.

My course tutor is brilliant as their teaching style is quite informal and they have a lot of knowledge. We are getting practical experience working with livestock, lambing and greenwood crafts. We're also given the chance to gain additional certificates."
