The Government funds and regulates adult Further Education and skills training in England. They pay a proportion of the cost to deliver the course and expect the student, or a sponsor, to pay the remaining portion. This is referred to as the ‘tuition fees’ and is what we display on our guide. If a course or a learner is not eligible for government funding the Full Cost /international fees will be liable. Please refer to our International fees page for more information.
Please note that the fees shown relate to the WHOLE programme but may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances, including changes to Government funding and remission policies, so before enrolling on a course please check with the College for the latest information. The College also reserves the right to close, or not to start any published course.

Content / Overview
If you are interested in a career in teaching and coaching, and want to develop your own football skills and game understanding alongside a study programme related to your career aspirations of working with and coaching/teaching children and young people, then this is the course for you.
You will undertake and gain an understanding of the P.E and football industry, and a range of coaching techniques and programmes. Our aim is to give you the tools required to succeed in the coaching and physical education industry and enhance your knowledge of working with children in a sports setting.
Coaching of different ages and abilities, understanding of assessment, psychology, and improvement of own football and skills are some of the topics we cover here and opportunities to apply your skills in a school and football club are supported.
The course is delivered by a UEFA qualified football coach and FA Tutor, with links to a variety of external clubs and companies to gain valuable coaching and teaching experience.
Students will undertake and complete two qualifications; 1st 4 Sport Physical Education and School sport and FA Level 2. If you have not completed your FA Level 1, this will cost £150 to complete.

Why Study Here
The Merrist Wood College Football Development Centre offers full-time education programmes for 16-18 year olds, which incorporates both full-time football training with post-16 education across five days.
Students have the opportunity to take a course related to their career interests and gain an understanding of the football industry whilst developing their own football skills and performance.
Coaches working on the programme are experienced college tutors, and UEFA qualified coaches. The college team plays in the top national league and the coaches and tutors work hard to create opportunities for the players to play outside of college.

- Gain paid work experience at the Merrist Wood Football Coaching School
- A Level option available alongside these programmes

- Excellent progression routes to university, USA (coaching and playing scholarships), UK playing routes, Coaching and other industry roles

Application followed by individual interview
At least one GCSE at grade 4 (grade C) or above, in either Maths or English, or a relevant Level 2 qualification in Sport. In addition you will need your FA Level 1.
Students will be expected to coach and work with a local football team aged 7-18 for the season. In addition learners are expected to complete a 12 week school placement delivering 1 hour of P.E a week in a local primary school.
Upon completion of your studies you will have the necessary skills and qualifications to begin a career in sport, these include options to go to University to study a Foundation Degree or coach football both in the UK and abroad with our U.S.A and China links. Some of our students have gone on to some great careers in coaching, teaching and also even stayed on to work with us.
If you have not completed your FA Level 1, this will cost £150 to complete.
Also, additional costs will include a branded Nike kit bundle from £200.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position.
There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding (identified as 'no fee remission available on this course').
