The Government funds and regulates adult Further Education and skills training in England. They pay a proportion of the cost to deliver the course and expect the student, or a sponsor, to pay the remaining portion. This is referred to as the ‘tuition fees’ and is what we display on our guide. If a course or a learner is not eligible for government funding the Full Cost /international fees will be liable. Content / Overview
This Apprenticeship introduces learners to supervisory level greenkeeping and groundsmanship.
Framework for the Apprenticeship includes:
- Employee rights and responsibilities
- Functional skills Maths and Literacy at level 2
- Work Based Learning Sports Turf Level 3 Diploma
Course content includes:
- Estimating resource requirements and programming work
- Promoting, monitoring and maintaining health, safety and security
- Self management
- Managing information for action
- Creating grassed and planted areas
- Managing sports turf areas
- Managing drainage and irrigation systems
- Managing planted areas for their amenity value
- Preparing and applying pesticides

The College has close links with the sports turf industry including a candidate data matching service to help match employers with potential candidates. The College’s further learning resources include the library’s extensive collection of books, magazines, periodicals and online resources.
This Apprenticeship is suited to learners who have completed a work based Sports Turf Level 2 Diploma, or a level 2 Apprenticeship in Sports turf or green keeping, and wish to gain more skills in a supervisory role.
Application followed by individual interview
You must be working in a sport turf or Green keeping role and must have a level 2 Diploma or Apprenticeship in Sports turf or Greenkeeping as well as be interested in developing your skills.
Advanced apprentices must have GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 (grade C) or above, or equivalent.
One day a week in College for the Autumn and Spring term of both year 1 and year 2. The course is delivered through lectures, seminars and practicals. Tutor support is also provided during workplace assessment visits, approximately 2-3 per year.
Students are continually assessed throughout the Apprenticeship at College and in the workplace by a combination of providing a portfolio of evidence, work place assessment and Functional Skills exams.
