At Merrist Wood College our student success is extensive, with places being secured at some of the UK’s leading universities, and many students have gone straight into successful employment, working for national and international organisations.

This year we have helped students to progress in their dream careers, by earning opportunities and appointments including becoming Police and Naval Officers, animal keepers, designers, floral artists and landscapers for award-winning gardens and exhibits at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

We want to ensure that your next step towards university or a professional career is smooth and successful. We will support you through the entire process, from building your CV, to applying to university and preparing for interviews.

Whatever your ambition, we’ll help you to achieve your goals!

"I would describe my time studying at Merrist Wood College as eye opening. I would recommend this college to others as I feel that my development could not have been achieved elsewhere, I have learnt so much about myself.

The grounds are incredible as there are many trees and plants on site to help expand your plant knowledge, and there's lots of space to learn new things. I would highly recommend the College to anyone who enjoys the fresh air, being outside and being hands on with nature."

Danielle ScandoneName: Danielle Scandone

Studied: Floristry

Progression: Florist for Moonflower

Since leaving the College, Danielle has won a Silver medal for Floristry and the 'Best of Nation' (highest scoring in the UK) medal at the 2016 EuroSkills finals held this year in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“It's amazing being chosen to represent the UK in Floristry at EuroSkills. Merrist Wood is where it all started for me. I was told that I had a talent by my lecturers, and they encouraged me to enter the Skills Show heats which helped me take a leap in the right direction, which is now a massive part of my life.

The whole experience of Euroskills has been such an amazing experience. Competing under pressure was a challenge but I loved every minute of it. I am
so proud to have represented the UK in floristry and win the Silver medal, but then
to also win the Best of Nation medal was an absolute honour which I didn't expect.
I am so thankful to my trainers Laura Leong and Lynda Owen, they are amazing
people and I wouldn’t have achieved this without them."

Sam ValenteName: Sam Valente

Studied: Wildlife and Conservation

Progression: Ranger for Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership

"Merrist Wood College was an essential foundation for the career I’ve taken up, also an amazing place to learn additional skills that put you above the rest when it comes to applying for jobs or Higher Education. The lecturers in Wildlife and Conservation couldn’t of been more of a credit to the College, really willing to put the time in to help you if you’re struggling and provide you with everything you need to succeed."

The College has had a great impact on my future, and I am hoping to train as a Floristry Teacher in the future. I would recommend the College to anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to learn in a friendly environment."

Mike AttwellName: Mike Attewell

Studied: Wildlife and Conservation

Progression: Field Team Member for the Environment Agency

"I really enjoyed my time studying at the College. I got along with all of my tutors well, all who were very knowledgeable. I enjoyed the variety of the course contents, and found the practical sessions very useful. The theoretical and practical knowledge I gained from the course has really helped me in my current employment. I think that the work experience we completed as part of the course really helped to prepare us for the outside world of employment within this industry."

Tommy Chappell

Name: Tommy Chappell

Studied: Wildlife and Conservation

Progression: Degree in Agriculture at Harper Adams University

"My time at Merrist Wood College was amazing! I made friends for life, it made me a more rounded person, opened doors and I loved the course. On completion of my courses I secured a place at Harper Adams University to study a degree in Agriculture. Without the course or the excellent support from the College tutors, that door would have remained firmly closed."
